At a glance

Bangladesh’s equity market extended its rebound on 8 October 2026, with the DSEX gaining 0.21% to 5,475.58 for a second consecutive positive session. Market breadth remained constructive at 171 advances against 150 declines, marking the first back-to-back positive breadth readings since the September rebound. However, the quality of the advance weakened: DSE turnover fell 11.84% to Tk 5,332.06 million, normal-board turnover declined 9.46%, and traded volume dropped 10.11%. The index briefly moved above the 5,482–5,510 resistance band, reaching approximately 5,502 intraday, but failed to sustain the move and closed below the band. Retail net buying narrowed, institutions were nearly balanced, and foreign investors returned to net selling. Large caps remained comparatively resilient, with DS30 rising 0.42%, while market sentiment stayed “Neutral” at 45/100. The session therefore represented a continuation of the rebound, but with fading momentum and limited confirmation from liquidity.

1.3 Cross-Market Conclusion

Direction. DSEX gained 11.69 points (+0.21%) to 5,475.58, its second consecutive rise. It is 1.80% above the 14 September correction low of 5,379 (press) and 1.00% above the 6 October pullback low of 5,421.69. Early in the session the index moved above the 4 October close (5,482.36) and approached the 5 October high (5,507.07), but it did not hold there and closed 0.12% below 5,482.36. The 5,480–5,510 band therefore acted as resistance on the first test. DS30 (+0.42%) and CDSET (+0.51%, dashboard) outperformed, and DSES (+0.09%) lagged. On the CSE, CSCX rose 0.09% to 9,017.14 and CASPI 0.04%, but CSE30 fell 0.38%, so the CSE large-cap index did not confirm.

Liquidity and intensity. DSE turnover fell 11.84% and volume 10.11%, while transactions were flat (172,590). Normal-board turnover fell 9.46% to Tk 5,019.60 mn, and block turnover fell 36.66% to Tk 312.46 mn (5.86% of total). Average turnover per transaction fell 11.85% to Tk 30,894, so the session had as many trades as 7 October but smaller tickets. CSE turnover fell 8.64% to Tk 134.77 mn, though trades rose 26.32% to 1,272 and main-board turnover rose 68.76%.

Breadth and participation. DSE breadth was 171 advances / 150 declines (A/D 1.14), narrower than 7 October (1.43) but positive for a second session. The previous positive reading (30 September) reversed the next day, so two positive sessions in a row is an improvement. Investor flow was weaker than on 7 October: retail net buying narrowed to +0.78% of total from +1.43%, institutions were almost flat (+0.09% after –2.00%), and foreign investors returned to net selling (–0.66%) with participation up to 1.40%.

Relative activity and concentration. The DSE accounted for 97.53% of combined turnover. Concentration eased: Textile fell to 27.93% of main-board turnover from 32.01%, the top three sectors to 46.38% from 51.28%, and the top ten counters to 29.46% from 33.51%. ETL (Tk 248.19 mn, –0.62%) remained the largest counter. Overall, the session extended the rebound on positive breadth but lower turnover and stalled at the first resistance band. Price held its 7 October gain, but this session added little new evidence of demand.
