1. Executive Weekly Synopsis

Market direction. The DSEX experienced a negative movement during the week, closing at 5,531.65 against 5,578.33 at the end of the previous week, a decline of -46.68 points (-0.84%). This reversed almost all of the previous week's gain and returned the index close to its 17 September level (5,532.15). The index found limited support from bargain buying on 30 September, while facing pressure from large-cap declines on 27 September and caution ahead of full-year results from June-closing companies. Four of the five sessions closed lower.

Investor sentiment and momentum. Sentiment was defensive. The opening session recorded the week's sharpest fall (−45.58 points, with 75 advancers against 277 decliners), and smaller declines followed on 28 and 29 September. The only up-session (30 Sep, +26.07) was not sustained: on 1 October the index reached 5,579.75 intraday and then closed on its low. Short-term momentum deteriorated, with a sequence of lower intraday highs (5,631.59 on 24 Sep, 5,592.96 on 27 Sep, 5,579.75 on 1 Oct).

Liquidity and breadth. Liquidity contracted: main-board turnover totalled BDT 35,306.25 million, -10.1% against the previous week, and volume fell -17.3%. In contrast, block-market turnover rose +19.9% to BDT 2,438.66 million (6.91% of turnover). Breadth was weak: 617 issues advanced and 1051 declined across the five sessions (aggregate A/D ratio 0.59x), and on a week-on-week price basis only 91 of 386 instruments rose.

Cross-exchange context.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also finished the week lower. CASPI declined 0.54% from 14,912.19 to 14,831.98, CSCX fell 0.51% to 9,100.89, and CSESMEX recorded the sharpest index decline at 2.34%. CSE weekly turnover was BDT 1,382.24 million, with 107 advancers against 169 decliners (A/D 0.63x). CSE block turnover reached BDT 608.36 million, equivalent to approximately 44.0% of CSE weekly turnover, indicating a materially higher negotiated-trade share than on DSE.
