1. Executive Market Summary

The DSEX fell for a second session on Monday, 26 October 2026, losing 33.01 points (-0.61%) to 5,399.54. All four DSE indices declined: DS30 -0.52%, DSES -0.68% and CDSET -0.41%. The index opened firmly, touched 5,443.30 early, slid to an intraday low of 5,393.73 in the afternoon and closed at 5,399.54. That is the first close below the 12 Oct pullback low (close 5,404.87; low 5,402.15), the base the recovery since 12 Oct had been built on.

Liquidity eased. DSE turnover fell 4.68% to Tk 4,105.78 mn, transactions 9.00% to 133,552 and volume 6.03%. Turnover was 2.98% below the 15–25 Oct five-session average (Tk 4,232.07 mn), and block trades made up 7.17% of it. Breadth stayed deeply negative at 74 advances, 248 declines and 58 unchanged (A/D 0.30x, from 0.22x). Mutual funds fell 17 to 2.

On the CSE, CSCX fell 0.30% to 8,937.16 and CASPI 0.26% to 14,543.94, against official 25 Oct closes; all five CSE indices were lower. CSE turnover edged up +1.87% to Tk 164.24 mn, with block trades 19.63% of value. SIPLC (Tk 47.53 mn) and SAIHAMTEX (Tk 32.90 mn, mostly block) took 49.0% of it.

KEY OBSERVATION | The day's main finding is that bank support faded and the broad index broke its October base. On 25 Oct banks had been the only advancing sector. Today they turned (2 up / 20 down, volume-weighted −0.77%), and BRACBANK, PRIMEBANK and CITYBANK all closed lower on heavy value. DS30 lost 0.52% and the DSEX closed below 5,402.15. The breakdown came on moderate turnover (Tk 4,105.78 mn, below the Tk 4,300 mn threshold set in the 25 Oct report), so it reads as continued distribution rather than a capitulation-type sell-off. Momentum is turning down, in line with the 25 Oct checklist: the DSEX MACD histogram narrowed from +4.14 to +2.50. The terminal sentiment gauge read 20, 'Extreme Bear' (third-party context only).
