1. Executive Market Summary
Trading resumed on Sunday, 25 October 2026 after the five-day Durga Puja closure, and the DSEX fell 18.08 points (-0.33%) to 5,432.55. DS30 was almost flat (-0.08%) and CDSET edged up (+0.13%), but DSES fell 0.91%. The index opened strongly and reached 5,477.50 in the first half-hour, above the 17 Oct high (5,472.03). It then sold off steadily and closed at its intraday low of 5,432.55. That is back below the 5-day SMA (5,438.22), just above the 19 Oct low (5,430.76).
DSE turnover fell 14.31% to Tk 4,307.21 mn and volume fell 15.78%, while transactions edged up +0.82% to 146,761. Turnover stayed above the 17–19 Oct three-session average (Tk 3,952.08 mn; +8.99%). Breadth was the weakest in this series: 63 advances, 282 declines and 37 unchanged (A/D 0.22x, from 1.37x on 19 Oct). Mutual funds fell 21 to 2.
On the CSE, CSCX fell 0.14% to 8,963.08 and CASPI 0.17% to 14,578.88, against official 19 Oct closes. CSE30 (+0.17%) and CSE50 (+0.05%) rose. CSE turnover fell 23.85% to Tk 161.23 mn. ASIATICLAB and IPDC alone took 66.7% of it.
KEY OBSERVATION | The day's main finding is a sharp gap between large-cap banks and the rest of the market. Banks were the only mapped sector to rise (17 up / 4 down, volume-weighted +1.64%). BRACBANK (Tk 320.67 mn), CITYBANK (+2.36%) and PRIMEBANK (+3.39%) kept DS30 nearly unchanged. Meanwhile 282 of 382 classified issues fell and DSES lost 0.91%. The opening rally above the 17 Oct high reversed into a close at the day's low, so the first post-holiday session rejected the 5,452–5,477 resistance zone. The terminal sentiment gauge read 18, 'Extreme Bear' (third-party context only).
