1. Executive Summary
The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) opened October with a failed follow-through on Thursday, 1 October 2026. DSEX traded up to 5,579.75 early in the session, its highest level since 24 September. It then reversed to close at its session low of 5,531.65 (–0.34%), giving back all of the previous session's gain and more. Turnover and volume rose, but breadth deteriorated sharply (85 advances / 242 declines), and the DSE sentiment gauge fell to 23 ("Bear") from 49 ("Neutral"). Activity concentrated further in textiles, where eight of the ten turnover leaders were textile companies, while IPDC was both the largest turnover counter and the largest decliner. DSE figures are official (DSE Daily Market Snippet) and reconcile exactly to the supplied tick and block files. The file supplied as the 1 October CSE tick file contains DSE trades, so CSE analysis for 1 October is limited to the block workbook and dashboard (see Section 24).

The intraday high of 5,579.75 was a second consecutive higher high (30 Sep: 5,562.76), but the index closed at its low, below the 30 September intraday low (5,539.15). The higher-high attempt was rejected within the session. DS30 (–0.23%) and DSES (–0.20%) declined less than DSEX, and DSMEX fell 1.12%. The 29 September pullback low (5,524.37) was not broken. The DSE sentiment gauge fell to 23 ("Bear") and the CSE gauge to 38 ("Bear"), from 49 and 48 ("Neutral").

Normal-board turnover rose only 1.78%, while block turnover rose 25.75% to Tk 603.92 mn, the highest block value in the period. That is 2.85 decliners per advancer, inside the 2.5–3.0 warning band cited in the October risk framework (Section 25). Net investor flows were small. Retail (+0.97%) and foreign investors (+0.38% → +0.27%) were net buyers; institutions (–0.77%), dealers (–0.13%) and "Others" (–0.34%) were net sellers. Institutional selling was much lighter than on 30 September (–3.87%).
